Growing Forward 2 - What's new for 2015-16?

Growing Forward 2 (GF2) is a five-year federal-provincial-territorial initiative designed to encourage innovation, competitiveness and market development in Canada's agri-food and agri-products sector through cost share funding opportunities. As GF2 enters its third year beginning April 1, 2015, updates have been made to the program.


 For Ontario producers, application for funding is made through the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA).  1-800-265-9751

 New for Growing Forward 2 Producer applications:

  • All GF2 funding opportunities are now merit-based, under a single Program
  • Cost-share caps per project have been introduced for each eligible Project Category
  • To be eligible, cost-share funding will only apply to invoices dated after a letter approving a funding allocation has been issued by OSCIA.

 Application intake dates for Producers in 2016/2017:

  • Intake 1: February 5 - February 25, 2016
  • Intake 2: June 17 - July 7, 2016
  • Intake 3: October 14 - November 3, 2016

    Application intake dates for 2017/2018:
  • Intake 1: February 3 - February 23, 2017
  • Intake 2: May 12 - June 1, 2017

 Final project completion dates for the program:
GF2 projects must be completed by December 12, 2017 with all claims (including all required paid invoices and proofs of payment) submitted by January 31, 2018.

 For Ontario processors, application for funding is made through Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA).

 New for Growing Forward 2 Processor applications:

  • Growing Forward 2 (GF2)priorities are clearly identified
  • All projects will be assessed on merit. Only the most impactful projects will receive cost-share
  • Cost-share funding will be capped depending on the project category
  • Some project categories have prerequisites as a required condition before you apply
  • Approval of your project is needed before costs can be incurred and paid

 In Ontario, GF2 offers resources, tools and cost-share funding assistance to eligible processors to grow their profits, expand markets and manage shared risks.

 GF2 Processor Program Guide

 GF2cost-share funding assistance is available to processors who are actively processing, modifying or transforming agricultural commodities, food, beverages or agricultural-based bio-products in Ontario. The maximum cost-share funding that a single processor business can receive over the five-year time frame is $350,000.

Organizations and Collaborations

 For Organizations and Collaborations, application for funding is made through the Agriculture Adaptation Council (AAC)

Intake deadlines are: July 23, 2015 and October 15, 2015
